Featuring a lineup of high-profile industry leaders, speakers and panelists coming from Canada, China, the United States and Japan, the 5th GPIFF Industry Forum is set for industry insiders to join in-depth dialogues and discussions with filmmakers from across the world. Based on the theme of Co-production, Distribution and Incubation,the forum is designed to bring together global film industries, encourage cross-nation collaborations and advance trans-cultural communications. Attending guests include representatives from Creative BC, Telefilm, China’s dominant film distributor China Film Co., China’s leading cultural investment group Poly Culture North America, the flagship unit of Alibaba Group’s entertainment arm Alibaba Pictures and more.

As an incubator aiming to support emerging filmmakers, the inaugural Project Pitch Event will select high-quality projects to participate in the final event in Vancouver, during which filmmakers will have an opportunity to propose their film projects to the judging panel and audience. This event aims to integrate filmmaking resources from both places, connect global film industries and assist in further development of potential film projects.

The judging panel is formed by Jiang Ping, Chinese director, vice chairman and general manager of China Film Co.; Bo Svenson, U.S. actor, producer, director; Stephen Nemeth, U.S. film producer, president of Rhino Films; Dennis Hoffman, Canadian visual effects veteran, president of Stargate Studios Vancouver; Robert Lundberg, COO of China Lion Film Distribution and Kôsuke Mukai, Japanese writer, director, cinematographer.

Masters Workshop

With a strong focus on the participants’ unique inner self and personality, the “Actors and Writers Creative Seminar — Criteria for Success in Hollywood” offers a positive and uplifting experience to attending actors and writers. The seminar is led by established and prolific U.S. filmmaking veteran, Bo Svenson. Having worked with over one hundred Academy Award winners and nominees, including Clint Eastwood and Quentin Tarantino, in such films, include The Inglorious Bastards (1978), Heartbreak Ridge (1986), Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004), Svenson brings more than four decades of experience in performing arts to the seminar. A long-time member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences himself, Svenson integrates his own experience into the course content. His skills in creation and acting will spark students’ creativity and make the event a fruitful experience for all attendees.

The 5th GPIFF Industry Party: Canada-China Film Gala will be held on December 9 at Vancouver Art Gallery.

A high-end event for cultural communication, the Canada-China Film Gala will bring together elites in film industries from dozens of countries and regions, as well as representatives from all walks of life.

More than 200 industry professionals and guests in politics, economy, and arts will gather together to share insightful conversation, and discuss the collaboration between Canada and China in film and cultural industries while enjoying the elegant artistic atmosphere in the gallery, which is one of Vancouver’s cultural landmarks.

Exquisite food and drinks, as well as melodious music played by live performers, will make the night a pleasurable experience for all attending guests.

Campus Activities

GPIFF aims to discover and support international emerging filmmakers as well as foster collaborations in global film industries. With that mission, festival staff traveled thousands of miles across Canada, China and the United States visiting local film schools to discover aspiring filmmakers.By interacting with students and staff from outstanding film schools through screenings, games and various activities, festival staff gave voices to young filmmakers who are the future backbone of the film industry and indeed felt their passion and sincerity.

Cultural Immersion Trip

Taking annually following the previous year’s festival, the GPIFF International Filmmakers Cultural Immersion Trip invites award-winning filmmakers to join an in-depth, cross-national cultural trip, in order to spark inspirations for promoting exchanges in the global film industry.
