LEAD EXHIBITORS

China Film Co., China’s dominant movie distributor, has close to 60 per cent share of China’s overall movie distribution market. It is one of China’s only two film studios that are entitled the right to import foreign films.

The Hollywood Reporter once wrote “There is no relationship more important to the Hollywood studios in the growing Chinese market than its ties at China Film, which selects which Hollywood titles it will bring into the country, deals with important issues such as securing release dates and censorship clearance, and then handles a large portion of local marketing. ”

China Film Co. would be the key contact for any Canadian film companies and filmmakers that are looking to expand their businesses and career to China.

Alibaba Pictures Group, the entertainment arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group. Alibaba Pictures has a strong focus on developing online film distribution both within China and on a global level. Its talent incubation scheme “Plan A” helps discover, fund and support emerging filmmakers. With a strong technology and e-commerce background, Alibaba Pictures is taking over China’s online film production and distribution field at a rapid pace. The Alibaba Pictures-controlled Tao Piao Piao is also one of the dominant online film ticketing and information platforms is China, which has more than 500 million active users monthly.

PROJECT PITCH

An incubator aiming to support emerging filmmakers, the inaugural Project Pitch Event provides an opportunity for filmmakers to propose their film projects to the judging panel and audience. This event aims to connect emerging filmmakers with established industry leaders and help assist in further development of potential film projects.
